Jeff Koons Brings Neo Pop Art to Supreme Skate Decks

Jeff Koons Brings Neo Pop Art to Supreme Skate Decks

Supreme's linking up with Jeff Koons. The collaboration puts the contemporary artist's monkey imagery and surreal backgrounds onto a set of skateboard decks.

Who Is Jeff Koons?

Koons is an American artist known for what's been called Neo Pop art. Before he was making sculptures, he was working on Wall Street as a broker. He broke through in the 1980s by taking everyday popular culture objects and turning them into controversial, highly valued art pieces.

One of his most famous works came in 1988. Koons cast a life-size porcelain sculpture of Michael Jackson reclining with his pet chimpanzee, Bubbles. That piece later sold at Sotheby's for over $5 million. His work frequently uses cartoonish imagery tied to broader cultural traditions and art history, playing in the space between low, commercial aesthetics and high art. He's built a career on blurring that line.

The Collaboration

This one's focused on skate decks. Koons and Supreme worked together to produce a new variety of monkey imagery set against surreal backgrounds. It fits with Koons' long-running interest in accessible sculpture and objects that exist outside gallery walls. Putting his art on a skateboard deck isn't a huge leap from his usual approach of bringing fine art into the everyday.

What's Dropping

  • Jeff Koons x Supreme Skateboard Decks

That's the confirmed piece from this collaboration. Decks are a staple of Supreme's artist collabs, and Koons' work translates well to the format.

Release Details

The Jeff Koons x Supreme collection drops September 19th in Supreme stores worldwide. No online-specific details have been confirmed yet, so keep an eye on Supreme's site that morning. These artist decks tend to move fast, so don't sit on it.
