Supreme is teaming up with legendary manga creator Katsuhiro Otomo this fall for an AKIRA collection that's been years in the making. For those unfamiliar, AKIRA ran from 1982 to 1990 and is widely credited with bringing manga and anime to Western audiences. Set in a post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo, the story follows Kaneda and Tetsuo - two friends in a motorcycle gang whose relationship unravels after Tetsuo gains devastating psychic powers. The series' dystopian aesthetic has influenced countless films and shows since.
The collection features original artwork from Otomo himself across a solid range of pieces:
- Outerwear: Fishtail Parka, Work Jacket, and Coveralls
- Tops: Jacquard Long Sleeve, Soccer Top, multiple hoodies (including zip-up), and five different tees
- Accessories: 5-Panel Hat, two skateboard decks, plus a ceramic plate and tray
Everything drops November 2nd at Supreme's NY, Brooklyn, LA, London, and Paris stores, plus online. Japan gets it November 4th. No word on pricing yet, but expect the outerwear to command premium prices given the collaboration pedigree.
