Supreme is linking up with legendary graffiti pioneer Cost for a four-piece T-shirt collection dropping this week. For those who might not know the history, Cost (along with his partner Revs) was doing what we now call street art back before anyone called it that—wheatpasting simple white paper posters on the backs of Walk/Don't Walk signs all over New York with messages like "Cost Fucked Madonna" and "Cost Was Here." This was the mid-90s, and it completely changed how artists thought about getting their name out in public spaces.
What made Cost's approach revolutionary was how he moved beyond traditional graffiti tagging into something more accessible—straight text that anyone could read and understand, plastered everywhere across the city in a way that demanded attention. He basically merged guerrilla bombing tactics with the saturation strategy of mass advertising, paving the way for a lot of what street artists do today.
The collection releases in-store and online on October 14th, with Japan getting it on October 16th. No word yet on pricing, but these are billed as limited edition pieces honoring a genuine innovator who did this stuff when it actually meant something.
