Supreme is dropping something a bit different this week – a hardcover photography book featuring team riders Tyshawn Jones, Sage Elsesser, Sean Pablo, and Aidan Mackey, shot by legendary fashion photographer David Sims. The New York-shot project takes a different approach from standard skate photography, mixing studio and location work for what Supreme describes as a unique perspective on American youth.
For those unfamiliar, David Sims is kind of a big deal in the photography world. He came up in the early '90s alongside names like Juergen Teller and Wolfgang Tillmans, helping to shift fashion photography away from the polished supermodel era toward something more raw and honest. His resume includes major campaigns for Raf Simons, Calvin Klein, Helmut Lang, and Prada, plus iconic magazine covers featuring Kurt Cobain and Kate Moss. His recent work has evolved from his earlier minimal style into something grittier and more experimental, which should make for an interesting lens on Supreme's skate team.
The book drops September 17th at Supreme NY, LA, London stores and online, with Japan getting it on September 19th. No word on pricing yet, but expect this one to move quickly given the caliber of photographer involved.
