Supreme's tapping Joel-Peter Witkin for their fall lineup, which feels like a natural move for anyone familiar with the brand's history of working with provocative artists. Witkin's photography is definitely not for everyone - his surreal, often disturbing compositions feature marginalized subjects, cadavers, and dismembered body parts, all shot using techniques inspired by early daguerreotypes and classical paintings. The Brooklyn-born photographer has been creating this kind of work since the '50s, developing his dark aesthetic after witnessing a fatal car accident as a child and later documenting everything from Coney Island sideshow performers to the Vietnam War.
The collection pulls from three of Witkin's images: Mother and Child (With Retractor, Screaming), Harvest, and Sanitarium - the latter being the same photograph that inspired Alexander McQueen's legendary "Asylum" presentation back in 2001. Supreme's keeping it straightforward with the apparel: you're getting a hooded sweatshirt and two t-shirts featuring the artwork.
