Supreme is teaming up with legendary conceptual artist John Baldessari for a three-deck series dropping next week. For those unfamiliar, Baldessari has been a major force in contemporary art since the '60s, known for his signature approach of obscuring faces with colored dots and creating visual puzzles that mess with how we read images. The California-born artist, now in his 90s, has shown his work in hundreds of exhibitions worldwide and is getting a retrospective at the Met this month, which makes the timing of this collab pretty perfect.
The collection consists of three limited edition skateboard decks featuring Baldessari's distinctive visual style. While Supreme hasn't revealed the specific designs yet, expect his characteristic blend of photography, text, and those iconic colored dots to translate onto the decks.
The boards drop in-store and online on October 7th, with Japan following on October 9th. No word on pricing yet, but given the artist collaboration pedigree, these will likely move fast.
