Supreme's dropping a Malcolm McLaren collection this week that goes deeper than most collab backstories. For those who don't know, McLaren basically shaped punk and early hip-hop culture—managing the Sex Pistols, running the infamous SEX shop on Kings Road with Vivienne Westwood, and later producing the groundbreaking "Duck Rock" album in 1983. That album is actually where the Supreme connection comes in: McLaren collaborated with "The World Famous Supreme Team," two New York emcees named Just Allah and See Divine who also had their own radio show. The project also brought in legendary artists Keith Haring and Dondi White.
The collection features original artwork from Haring and Dondi White that was created for McLaren back in the day, appearing across:
- T-shirts
- Hoodie
- New Era hat
- Vans V-79
Everything drops in-store and online Thursday, May 21st (May 23rd in Japan). It's a smaller collection, but considering the archival artwork and the historical connection to Supreme's namesake, this one's worth paying attention to.
