Supreme is releasing a collaborative collection with the late Toshio Saeki, the legendary Japanese artist known for his provocative and surreal erotic artwork. Born in 1945 in Osaka, Saeki developed a distinctive style that blended Japanese folklore, Shinto imagery, and his own subconscious visions with influences from Western art and comics. His transgressive work captured the countercultural spirit of 1970s Japan, appearing in underground magazines and galleries while challenging traditional attitudes around sexuality and expression. After decades in Tokyo, he spent his later years in rural Chiba Prefecture.
Supreme originally began collaborating with Saeki back in 2019, but sadly the artist passed away at age 74 before the project could be completed. The brand has now finalized the collection as a tribute to his legacy. The lineup is kept relatively focused with three pieces:
- Work Jacket
- Hooded Sweatshirt
- Work Pant
The collection drops November 5 in the US and EU, with Japan following on November 7. Given Saeki's cult status and the posthumous nature of this collaboration, expect significant interest from both Supreme collectors and fans of Japanese underground art.
