Supreme's linking up with Wackies, the legendary Bronx-based reggae label that's been holding it down since the '70s. For those unfamiliar, Wackies was founded by Lloyd "BullWackie" Barnes and became the first major reggae studio and label in the US. Barnes brought the sound system culture he grew up with in Kingston straight to New York, first running Bullwackie's Disco around the city before opening his Bronx studio in 1973. The label became known for its bass-heavy, deliberately raw sound - so influential that some of their original equipment is literally in the Les Paul Museum now.
Wackies put out records from Jamaican heavyweights like Horace Andy and Sugar Minott while also developing New York talent like Love Joys and Itopia. The label's record shop next to the studio became a hub for the city's reggae community, similar to what Lee Perry's spot did in Jamaica.
The collaboration includes a six-piece capsule pulling from Wackies' original label artwork:
- Four graphic T-shirts
- Tank top
- 5-panel hat
The collection drops in-store and online on June 6th (June 8th in Japan), alongside two additional Summer graphic tees.
